While the recreational facilities in the City of Milwaukee already provide residents with green areas in which to relax and appreciate nature, additional efforts are being made to address environmental concerns within the constraints of a limited budget.
Since 2005 almost 100,000 square feet of asphalt have been removed and replaced with pervious surfaces, mostly grass.
Since 2005 twenty seven trees have been planted on various sites within the City of Milwaukee. A variety of trees are planted so children enjoying the play area can learn to identify and therefore appreciate the different kinds of trees as well.
In order to divert storm water run off, rain gardens have been planted. Hopefully gardens will remain intact so the native plants can thrive and attract birds and butterflies.
