A MRF is a Materials Recovery Facility, the place where trucks deliver recyclables for sorting into each commodity type. The City of Milwaukee owns its own MRF where the processing of Milwaukee’s curbside recyclables takes place. The City contracts out the operation of the MRF to a private company which processes the materials and sells them to recycling markets. The MRF has the capacity to handle 50,000 tons of recyclables per year.
The Milwaukee Environmental Education Resource and Tour Center, at 1313 W Mt. Vernon Avenue, is located next to the MRF. Educational programs and tours are provided by Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful Inc. (KGMB) in a cooperative project with the City.
Tour the MRF and visit the education center – call (414) 272-5462 for scheduling.
