Paving Project Map DisplayA map of the City of Milwaukee paving projects currently scheduled for construction in this and the next three years can be displayed by selecting the icon labeled "Enter Map Milwaukee" on the next screen. Below are settings that should be helpful when using Map Milwaukee to retrieve the paving project information.Map Milwaukee is a tool developed by the Graphics Information Section of the City's Information Technology Management Division that is used to display a variety of geographic related City Data. Upon starting Map Milwaukee, a base map of the City is displayed in the middle of the screen, a list of functions for controlling the view of the map on the left of the screen and a list titled "Layers" on the right of the screen. A layer is a map, often of a single data element type, that can be combined with several other layers to create a composite map. Select the default layers for viewing paving projects by selecting the grayed square checkbox immediately preceding the text "Transportation/Infrastructure" in the Layers list. Layers can be turned on or off at will by selecting the checkbox preceding the layer. You may want to turn off the Aldermanic District layer to reduce clutter. An "active" layer must be identified in order to retrieve project details. This is done by selecting the round button preceding the text "Street Paving Program" in the Layers list. Only one layer can be active at any time. Once these settings have been made, the Layers can be hidden and the map legend displayed by selecting Legend/Layers in the function list. The legend lists the selected layers and displays the symbol used for each layer's data. Each of the four project years will have its own color on the map. Four of the functions are used to manage the view of the map. They are Zoom In, Zoom Out, Pan and Locate. The zoom functions change the magnification of the map and reposition the map view so that the point select is centered on the screen. The pan function is used to grab the point selected and move it on the screen using drag and drop. Locate is used to find a particular address or intersection. A list of locations that best match the locate criteria is displayed and the operator can display the map with the desired location centered by selecting the number in front of the item in the list. The view can then be further adjusted using the pan and zoom functions. Once the desired project is found, information related to the project can be retrieved by using the Identify function and selecting the project on the map. When the project is selected using the identify function, a list of project titles is displayed. Depending on several factors, including the magnification of the display and the length of the project, there may be several identical project titles listed or the entire length of the project may not be highlighted when selected. The information retrieved for any of the identically titled rows will be the same and will include data for the entire length of the project. Detailed project information can be viewed by selecting the number under the heading "Project Detail" to the right of the project title in the list. ![]() |
