City of Milwaukee residents can rake leaves into the street from October 13th through November 15th for pickup by
City crews. After November 15th, crews will continue to pick up leaves as long as the weather permits. In the off
season, leaves may be taken to a City self-help center.
- Do not put leaves in plastic bags
- Do not put leaves in your garbage cart
- Do not rake leaves into the street after November 15th
- Do not put brush on leaf piles
- Do keep leaves away from storm drains
- Do keep piles away from sewer grates
- Do place garden debris on leaf piles
- Shred leaves into your lawn with your lawnmower or compost them
- Grass clippings left on the lawn will nourish the soil
- Leave clippings on the lawn to decompose and nourish the soil
- Compost grass clippings and use them to nourish plants
- Do not put grass clippings in your garbage container
- Take grass to a City self-help center
- Place on top of leaf piles during fall leaf collection
- Compost garden debris and use to nourish soil
- Take yard waste to a self-help center
- Flowers, fruits and vegetables can go in your garbage cart
- Twigs and tree pruning can be taken to a City self-help center
- Call (414) 286-CITY (2489) for brush piles smaller than 4 cubic yards
- The City does not collect brush piles larger than 4 cubic yards
