Elderly and Disabled Residents
If an elderly or disabled citizen is not physically able to roll their garbage cart to the curb and back, and has no other able-bodied person in the household to do this, they will be given a hardship designation and Sanitation will retrieve the cart from the storage area, empty it and return it to the storage location.
In some cases, a doctor certification of the disability may be required before a hardship is issued. For more information on this service, call the DPW Call Center at (414) 286-CITY (2489).
Elderly and disabled residents living in single family homes who are physically unable to clear the sidewalk in front of their home may apply to receive assistance with clearing the public walk after a major snowstorm. To be eligible, residents must certify that they and all other occupants of the resident are elderly or disabled and are physically unable to shovel the sidewalk. They must also certify that they are unable to obtain the service of any other individual.
The City will send a sidewalk plow to clear a path in front of the residence ONLY. The walk from the sidewalk to the door is not cleared. Driveways and side walkways are not cleared. This service is only provided following a plowing operation. The charges will be included on your property tax bill. For more information on this service, call the DPW Call Center at (414) 286-CITY (2489).
